14. Why is the project taking place? The project “Mindchangers: Regions and youth for Planet and People” is promoted by LAs (Regions), NGO networks and Universities in 6 EU countries. They all have a long experience in international cooperation and global citizenship education, and they jointed efforts in order to engage EU youths on global challenges such as Climate Change and Migration. By mobilizing other local actors (youth informal groups, universities, etc) and involving all components of society, the project will ensure that millions of European citizens will become aware of development issues, global challenges and interdependency. The core activity of the Action is subgranting, in order to fund projects in 6 EU countries, realized by LAs and CSOs, aimed at youth engagement on the two focus areas. The objective is triggering a wide variety of activities that will engage youths, at local and international level. At the same time, the Action will develop a strategy on how to shift from “awareness” to “active engagement”, that will strengthen the capacities of LAs and CSOs. Through an overall coordination among the Applicants, the Action will promote the Mindchangers campaign that will incorporate all funded projects, will be addressed to youth but will also reach the general public.
15. Overall objective of the projectTo strengthen the engagement of EU young citizens and the awareness of general public towards 2030 Agenda through communication actions and capacity building of LAs and small and medium CSOs.
16. Specific objective(s) of the project1) To foster youths as active agents of development and change, by mobilising them locally and at international level. 2) To innovate LAs and CSOs’ strategies to reach and engage youths, on the topics of sustainable development and international cooperation, specifically on the focus areas of Climate Change and Migration.
17. What will have changed as a result of the project? (Summarise the intended outcome)1) The Action will inform EU citizens and engage young people working on the topics of sustainable development, focusing on Climate change and Migration, with a gender equality approach. It will contribute to • increase the public awareness on Agenda 2030 and European Consensus on development, • have better informed and empowered youth, • increase the commitment and the engagement of youth and citizens. 2) The Action will fund 100-150 projects submitted and implemented by LAs and CSOs. The projects will foster the reconnection between youth and LAs, reinforce local youth associations and associations working with youth, create synergies with other CSOs and local actors. 3) A Practical Guide on how to shift from “awareness” to “active engagement” of youths will be published and it will be the focus of capacity building activities, addressed to staff and decision-makers of LAs and CSOs. This will contribute to enhance competencies to critically examine global interdependencies between the EU and developing nations. 4) Through the Mindchangers campaign, proper communication on the two focus areas will become more frequent and more accessible to the global public in terms of understanding. This will improve public debate on Climate change and Migration: more people will feel personally involved on these topics and know how to personally act to change things, last but not least, correct and solid-evidence information will be spread. 5) All members of the consortium have wide experience in international cooperation. The work in development countries, the reason of it and the benefits for North and South citizens will be another perspective used in the Action. This result will be achieved also by including stories and voices from the South (e.g. “Mindchangers” from Southern countries), showing the interconnection of global issues. Finally, the consortium is composed mainly by LAs. All the activities of the Action will involve actively other LAs, in urban, suburban and rural areas. Therefore, another result foreseen is the increased engagement of LAs and association of LAs in development education and awareness raising.
