13. Project background: Why is the project taking place? Why is the need form the project?" Significant numbers of students have little conscious experience of the world outside their local communities. The 3 LAs involved have a growing concern that a lack of experience about local and global issues will hamper students’ opportunities to lead fulfilling lives in a globally interdependent and changing world. Many teachers also do not have the competences to embed local to global development issues in their lessons or to dispel stereotypes related to development. "

(If you project is less than 1 year old feel free to ignore this question)International residential camps were one of the most successful events/outcomes. An international residential was held in each LA; 180 students and 27 teachers/coordinators attended from the 3 LAs. Students worked in mixed country teams and reported they had to improve their intercultural dialogue and communication skills, accept others cultures and differences. Their own views were challenged on MDGs-gender equality, poverty, environmental & sustainability issues and culture & identity. On return to their schools they delivered peer activities on these topics. Learning gained from these experiences by students was huge; all students expressed they felt empowered to take action by the experiences of working with other young people.
